On Cello

Photography by T Rowley, esqThe rear of my first EP, On Someone, featured, in tones sepia and granular, a chap playing a cello. That very man, Mr Dan Todd, turned up yet again yesterday to record for a full album.

Dan is the only musician whos come with me through every stage and iteration: from the days of an abortive band through On Someone to the rootsy sound of Walk The Floor, via numerous far-flung gigs at venues large, small and indifferent, to the new record. This time, hes arranged whole string sections for many of the songs. In fact, that process of devising a new sound for our strings was instrumental in arriving at the current project. Hes been a loyal, honest and invaluable collaborator.

The new album will feature one song we recorded for the first time for On Someone – sounding very different, but still the same. Itll be a sort of tip of the hat.
